I just thought to pen down my thoughts on inventions and innovations.
We all in corporate world we talk about inventions and innovations. Also “Innovation” is now a major focus of most the industries, may that be medicines, bio-tech, IT, Auto, Agriculture etc
More and more of human being’s life is driven by services industries - may that be mobile, new products, appliances, IT, medicals etc. Everywhere we talk about automations, new products, new gadgets, AI etc. because of increasing inventions and innovations.
Why am I talking all this?! When we look at inventions and solutions, few questions are lingering in my mind - what are we trying to achieve with these? Are we trying to make life simpler, faster to live and to bring more convenience to ourselves!? To make our life relaxed!? Or to show how my innovation is my/our innovation better that others and to show self pride? Or to bring business and commercial gains out of these innovations? What if these innovations were not there?
Only human being is the talented living being on earth. I feel that being talented/over talented the basic need of living being is far stretched to fulfill one’s need, greed and selfishness. Innovation has started from the existence of human life and since then the human being has exploited the earth.
Our population on earth is increasing and so is the need, the forests are diminishing, global warming is increasing, earth’s atmosphere is changing, waste is increasing, water is polluting, natural resources are reducing etc etc. Can’t imagine what earth will look like after 1000 - 2000 yrs. But, who cares! I am living now and will leave to next human being to bare it, at least it’s not my problem at present!
With due respect to human life, our life expectancy has increased over centuries because of advancement of medical sciences; human population is increasing and other living beings are reducing. That means the talent is increasing and so are innovations. Had it been that there were no vaccinations! Had it been there was no cure to deceases! Had it been there were no medical sciences or instruments! Had it been there was no oil or coal explored! Had it been there was no plastic invented! Had it been there were no automated wheels invented! Had it been paper was not invented! So many such inventions, if it was not there! Are the over demands and over usages destroying earth? Should we call these as innovations or passage to destructions?
Why am I writing this?! When I look around the irresponsible behavior of human being, it hurts. It pains. Is human being becoming irresponsible and careless by every invention/innovation? If we look around, there is so much of waste that is being produced – oil waste, coal waste, electronic waste, plastic waste, carbon waste, paper waste and so on … and now a days gigantic data waste in billions & trillions of Tera bytes!
Human beings first innovate, take pride, and then find solutions to problems created by that innovation. For simple example: Plastic! Human being innovated plastic, using so much so now that there are campaigns running to avoid plastic use because we are harming our nature by creating non degradable waste!!!. Actually, with this agony I searched who is the inventor of plastic – as per Google it’s Leo Baekeland – He had named that material as Bakelite.
Then I started thinking – why was plastic invented? What was the intent of it? What if it was not invented? What was the intention behind this innovation? What was the main cause for inventing plastic? Similar the questions arise for other inventions and innvotions as well!
When I try to find answers or understand such innovations - It’s human talented brain who invented these. What human beings are trying to achieve out of these innovations? Which innovation should call as innovation or to call it as destruction? Sometimes I feel that what if the human being had not had so much of talent!
I leave it up to you on how you want to take my thoughts; may be as an agreement, disagreement, as an argument! Or maybe even as vehemently disagreement! But I think that innovations are destroying earth if not used in a right spirit. It’s every “human being’s” responsibility to adapt to innovations which does not harm to nature. At least I am convinced.
